We’re calling on the World Bank to align its lending with its recent climate commitments and phase out financing for industrial animal agriculture.
When: Friday, April 19, 2024, 11:30am-2pm
Where: Meet us at the World Bank Visitor Entrance at 11:30am where we'll deliver ~250,000 citizen petitions and an open letter with ~200 organizational signatories to a World Bank representative.
At 12pm, we'll walk across the street to Edward R Murrow Park to rally and march with people coming to town from around the globe!
Who: Join the Stop Financing Factory Farming campaign (at the Big Shift climate rally) to "Decarbonize and Decolonize" and pressure the World Bank to stop financing factory farms.
Why: Development banks gives loans for industrial animal agriculture in some of the most threatened, biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. Not only is factory farming a huge source of air & water pollution, animal suffering, human rights abuse, and deforestation — it’s also one of the biggest sources of global greenhouse gas emissions: more than all cars and planes combined!
Unlike fossil fuels, which most people understand as the key driver of climate change, the connection between industrial animal agriculture and climate is almost always overlooked.
Hear speakers from the Global South explain how the World Bank is impacting their communities and how it can do better.
